Living to the rhythm of the river
Around Manaus, the Rio Negro and the Solimões form a maze of rivers, lakes and flooded forests. The lodges, set in isolated spots by the water, are the best way to experience this environment.
Days revolve around canoe outings, forest walks with a guide, wildlife watching and meeting local people. At night, the forest takes on a different atmosphere and you explore it by flashlight.
When to go
The Amazon can be visited year-round, but the experience changes with the water level. During high water, usually from March to July, you travel by boat through the flooded forest. During low water, from August to February, there are more trails and beaches appear along the rivers.

FAQ
Do I need a yellow fever vaccine?
Vaccination is recommended for the Amazon. Check with a travel medicine clinic or your doctor, ideally several weeks before you leave.
Do the guides speak English?
It depends on the lodge. Many work in Portuguese and English; a dedicated English-speaking guide can sometimes be booked for an extra fee. We specify this in your quote.
Will we see a lot of animals?
Wildlife is abundant but elusive, and the forest is dense. Boat outings and night excursions offer the best chances. No sighting can be guaranteed.
