Between river and ocean

Imbassaí is a small village on the Coconut Coast, about six miles from Praia do Forte. What makes it special: the Imbassaí River runs parallel to the sea before flowing into it, separated from the ocean by a strip of dunes.

In just a few steps, you go from calm, warm fresh water to the waves of the Atlantic. The village stays low-key, with a few streets of pousadas, restaurants and small shops in the shade of cashew trees.

When to go

It is warm year-round on the Bahia coast, with water temperatures of around 77 to 82°F (25 to 28°C). From September to March, the weather is drier and sunnier. From April to July, showers are more frequent, usually brief, but some days stay gray.

  • September to March: drier, sunnier season
  • April to July: rainy season
  • August: transition, often pleasant

FAQ

How do I get to Imbassaí?

Along the Linha Verde highway, in about an hour from Salvador airport. We arrange the private transfer.

Is swimming suitable for children?

Yes: the river is shallow and has no waves. On the beach, the sea is rougher, so you need to keep a close eye on them.

Imbassaí or Praia do Forte?

Imbassaí is quieter and closer to nature; Praia do Forte is livelier. Since they are neighbors, you can stay in one and visit the other.
