The village where everyone goes barefoot
A former fishing village, Jericoacoara has kept its sand streets and laid-back atmosphere. It sits inside a national park, among dunes, mangroves and freshwater lagoons.
Every evening, people climb the big dune to watch the sun set over the ocean. The rest of the time is split between the beach, buggy excursions to the lagoons and, for the sporty, kitesurfing and windsurfing thanks to the steady wind.
When to go
The climate is warm year-round. From July to January, it’s the dry season and the wind blows steadily: this is kitesurfers’ favorite time of year. From February to June, the rains fill the lagoons, but showers are more frequent.
