Founded in 1549, Salvador was Brazil’s first capital. Its UNESCO-listed historic center, the Pelourinho, is a succession of colorful façades, baroque churches and cobblestone squares.
The city is also the heart of Afro-Brazilian culture: capoeira, drumming, cooking with dendê palm oil and the religious traditions of Candomblé are present everywhere.

Salvador is warm year-round. From September to March, the weather is drier and sunnier. From April to July, the rainy season brings frequent showers, though they’re often brief.

Two nights let you explore both the Upper City and the Lower City. With three nights, you can add a free day or an excursion to Praia do Forte.
Can I come during Carnival?
Yes, but it’s one of the biggest carnivals in the world: the city celebrates day and night, prices go up and you need to book very early.
Is the historic center safe?
The Pelourinho is lively and well policed during the day. As in any big city, keep a low profile and follow your guide’s advice, especially in the evening.
